Store Credit

The following are extremely typical used bookstore policies:

  • We offer store credit in the amount of 50% of our sell-price for books in good condition that we believe we can sell in a reasonable amount of time. We are unlikely to take books we already have unless they are very popular from a bookseller perspective (example of this – we get asked for Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy almost every day. If twenty copies came in, we would take all of them.)

  • We very rarely pay cash for books at this time. If we are open to paying for your books we will let you know.

  • Credits from previous ownership will be carried forward.

  • Purchasing a book here does not mean we will want it again when you are finished with it. We may take it, but there is no guarantee.

  • What we are interested in for stock will vary day to day.

  • Try to limit the books you bring in for us to consider to two bags or boxes.

  • Books brought in must be clean, bug-free, smoke-free and neatly stacked (it is difficult to look through books that are piled in a bag haphazardly).

  • If you’d like us to pre-screen your books feel free to send a photo of them to westgatebooks123@gmail.com, or on Instagram @westgate.books

  • Plan for enough time for us to look through your books – sometimes up to half an hour. If you’re in a hurry, consider leaving the books as donations or coming in another time.

* Want to donate books? We appreciate you helping out a small business. We can accept small amounts of donations of books in good condition. Any books that we don’t use will be donated to charity book sales or placed in Little Free Libraries around town. If you are donating, all of what you bring must be donated. If you are looking for store credit, you have to take with you what we don’t take.
